Itinerary

Day 1: Arrival and city tour in Kigali

On the first day upon your arrival, you will be welcomed by Primate Safari Experiences’ guide who will drive you to Kigali genocide memorial sites for a city tour. The site is known as a place where thousands of Rwandese were brutally murdered and buried. From here, you will visit different craft shops and markets and later and later drive back to the lodge for dinner and overnight.

Day 2: Drive to Akagera national park

After breakfast, you will check out of the lodge for your transfer to Akagera national park for wildlife viewing experience. The park is known as the only destination in Rwanda where wildlife safaris are done. Expect to arrive at the park in the late afternoon hours, check in at the lodge of your choice for dinner and overnight.

Day 3: Full day game drive

In the morning after breakfast, you will drive to the park with your packed lunch for a full day game drive where you will spot a number of wildlife species like the early hunters like lions, hyenas, leopards and many others. Other animals to spot include; elephants, giraffes and others.

Day 4: Game drive and boat cruise on Lake Ihema

After breakfast, you will meet your guide for a transfer to the park tracks for a game drive where you will watch a number of wildlife species like elephants, lions, buffalos, leopards and many others. After, you will drive back to the lodge for lunch as you prepare for an afternoon boat cruise on Lake Ihema. The cruise is one of the relaxing experiences and this will grant you an opportunity of spotting different aquatic animals like crocodiles, hippos and others. Later, drive back to the lodge for dinner and overnight.

Day 5: Drive to Volcanoes national park

Wake up for breakfast and prepare for your transfer to Volcanoes national park with different stop overs for photography and beautiful sightings. The drive to the home of primates – Volcanoes from Kigali is roughly 2-3 hours. So, expect to arrive at the lodge of your booking in the afternoon, have lunch and then relax at the hotel as you prepare for the next day experience.

Day 6: Gorilla trekking experience and community walk

Wake up for your early tasty breakfast, after which your driver guide will take you to the headquarters in the park by 8 am for briefing about the dos and don’ts during gorilla trekking experience. After, you will embark on the amazing adventure which is gorilla tracking which involves hiking through the park rain-forests in search of the endangered mountain gorillas. The experience takes about 30 to 6 hours depending on the location of the assigned gorilla group. You will be able to enjoy the apes’ lifestyles like playing, breastfeeding and others. Also, during the experience, trekking hikers will be in line to also see other animals like the golden monkeys, elephants, buffaloes as well as birds.

After, drive back to the lodge for lunch and later go for a community walk where you will visit the twin lakes – Burera and Ruhondo and also enjoy the cultural performances like local dances and songs from the locals. After, you will return to the lodge for dinner and overnight.

Day 7: Drive back to Kigali for departure flight.

Wake up for your late breakfast and check out of the lodge for your transfer back to Kigali for your departure flight.
