Mgahinga gorilla national park
In Southwestern region of Uganda, Mgahinga Gorilla National Park is one the country’s smallest national parks stretching over an area of 33.7 meters. Sharing a border with Rwanda and the Democratic Republic of Congo, Mgahinga is part of the larger Virunga Conservation Area, which also includes parks in Rwanda and Congo, and it's renowned for its population of endangered mountain gorillas.
Aside from mountain gorillas, Mgahinga is also home to other primates like golden monkeys, as well as a variety of bird species and small mammals. Its terrain is characterized by lush forests, bamboo stands, and volcanic peaks, notably the three dormant volcanoes of Mount Muhabura, Mount Gahinga, and Mount Sabyinyo.
Bwindi impenetrable national park
Bwindi Impenetrable National Park is a UNESCO World Heritage Site located in southwestern Uganda, spanning an area of approximately 331 square kilometers. It's renowned for its exceptional biodiversity, notably as a habitat for almost half of the world's remaining mountain gorilla population, making it one of the most important conservation areas in Africa. The park is named for its dense, impenetrable forests, characterized by steep hills and valleys. In addition to mountain gorillas, Bwindi is also home to other primate species as well as various bird species, including numerous Albertine Rift endemics.
Queen Elizabeth national park
Named after Queen Elizabeth II, Queen Elizabeth National Park is one of Uganda's most popular and diverse conservation areas, standing as the second largest in the country after Murchison falls national park with a coverage an area of about 1,978 square kilometers in the western part of the country.
The park encompasses a diverse range of ecosystems, including savannah grasslands, wetlands, lakes, and forests. It's a home to several wildlife, including African elephants, lions, leopards, buffalo, and numerous antelope species such as Uganda kob and waterbuck. The park is also a home to the rare tree climbing lions that can be sight in Ishasha sector.
In addition to wildlife viewing, the park offers other activities such as game drives, bird watching, chimpanzee tracking in the Kyambura Gorge, and guided nature walks. Cultural experiences with local communities, such as the fishing villages along Lake George, provide insight into the traditional ways of life in the area.
