5 Days Classic Uganda Gorilla Trekking

Itinerary

Day 1: Arrival in Kigali and transfer to Mgahinga gorilla national park

On the first day of the trip, you will be welcomed by your guide/driver who will shortly brief you about the safari as you go for a city excursion to places like the genocide memorial site, the national museum, local markets and others. You will have an enroute lunch and proceed with the drive to Mgahinga gorilla national park of Uganda. The park is known for protecting 1 gorilla family – Nyakagezi which is open to tourism. Expect to arrive at the park in the late afternoon after crossing Cyanika border.

Day 2: First Gorilla trekking experience and transfer to Bwindi Impenetrable national park

Wake up for your breakfast and drive to the park headquarters for registration and briefing about the dos and don’ts of gorilla trekking experience. After, you will be assigned to the gorilla family to trek and you will be led by a park ranger through the park rainforests. During the trail through the forests, you will enjoy the breathtaking vegetation cover as you spot several species like birds, insects, butterflies, primates and small mammals.

On finding the mountain gorillas, you will be allowed to spend an hour in their presence as you enjoy their lifestyles like playing, breastfeeding and others. After, you will move back to the starting point for your trekking certificates and then to the lodge for lunch. After lunch, meet your guide for the transfer to Bwindi Impenetrable national park – a home to almost half of the world’s mountain gorillas. Arrive in the evening and check in at the lodge of your booking for refreshment, dinner and overnight.

Day 3: Second Gorilla trekking experience

As done in the first gorilla trekking experience in Mgahinga, you will wake up in the morning for your early breakfast and meet your guide for the transfer to the park headquarters for briefing about the rules and regulations of the experience. After, you will head to the jungle by the lead of the experienced ranger guides in search of the incredible apes. Once found, you will be allowed to spend a full hour in their presence as you learn and enjoy their daily life styles like playing, feeding and others. Later, drive back to the lodge for refreshment, lunch and relaxation.

Day 4: Gorilla habituation experience

After an early breakfast, you will head to the park headquarters with your packed lunch for a briefing on gorilla habituation. Accompanied by researchers and experienced guides, you will trail into the dense forest to find the gorilla family assigned and you will spend the next four hours with it. This unique experience allows you to observe and participate in the daily activities of the apes, including feeding, nesting, and social interactions. It is an extraordinary opportunity to understand these majestic creatures and the efforts to protect them. Later, move back to the starting point where you will meet your driver for the transfer to the lodge.

Day 5: Drive back to Kigali/Entebbe international airport for departure.

After breakfast, embark on the return journey to Entebbe/Kigali international airports for your departure flight. During the transfer, you will enjoy an enroute lunch and different roadside features like plantations, valleys, hills and others.
