Itinerary
Day 1: Arrival & Transfer to Rwenzori Mountains National Park.
Upon arrival at Entebbe international Airport , you will be welcomed by Primate Safari Experiences guide who will transfer to kasese district in south western Uganda which is the location for Rwenzori Mountains National Park that is known special destination for mountaineering adventures after Kilimanjaro National Park in Tanzania .
Lunch will be en route , depending on the route used ( getting there) in the evening hours you will be checked in at Ruboni Camp ( Budget) Equator Snow Lodge ( Luxury) Dinner and overnights meals on Full board. Driving Time is 6-7 hours.
Day 2: Nyakalengija 1640m - Nyabitaba camp 2650m.
After Morning breakfast , your safari guide will transfer you to the park headquarter which is the starting point for the trekking adventure in Rwenzori Mountains with RMS ( Central Circuit) where you will find the porters and guides that will accompany you into the hike. After start on the trek for 4-5 hours walk to Nyabitaba camp 2650m passing through the open farm lands and fields progressing in tall elephant grasses and peoples homesteads up to the park gate.
From the gate the trail takes you on the shores of River Mubuku through the Montane forest zones up to kyoho and mahoma rivers. Depending to the luck of the day, you might sight an Endemical three horned chameleon and a lot of primates. After crossing river Mahoma the trail ascends you steeply to Nyabitaba ridges and camp for dinner and an overnight.
Day 3: Nyabitaba camp 2650m - Johnmaate camp 3505m.
You will have morning breakfast and later start on the hike to connect to JohnMatte camp where you will be spending the overnight after passing through the River mubuku and bujuku rivers via kurtshuffer Bridge. You will be able to see the Alexandria Peak and Stanley peak from the distance. Dinner and overnight at Camp.
Walking Distance is estimated to 7 hours.
Day 4: Johnmaate camp 3505m - Bukurungu rock shelter.
After breathtaking views down the Rwenzori valleys, Start on the hike and almost 5 hours will be spent in the Bogg climb, this is abit difficult but worthy the effort and experience in Rwenzori Mountains with our experienced ranger guides and porters ready by your side to enable that you enjoy the holiday.
Dinner and overnight is on private Camping as there is no Camp, that's how the trip is unique compared to 7 days Rwenzori trekking that has camps for overnight and no tents.
Day 5: Bukurungu rock shelter - summit portal peak and Cagni Peak
Rising early, you prepare with your guides to attempt portal peak and peak Cagni. A difficult ascent on the steeply slopping rocks is followed by an easier but still challenging trudge in Climbing boots up to the summit of the above-mentioned beautiful peaks.
After taking nice photos there follow a careful descend to bukurungu rock shelter for hot lunch and continue down to bigo camp for dinner and an overnight.
Day 6: Bigo camp 3505m - skull cave rock shelter
After Morning break fast, you will start on the hike through the Skull Cave Rock shelter which is another hike that makes this trip unique since its not visited by those who go for 9 days Rwenzori Trekking tours in Rwenzori Mountains National Park. This will lead you through the afro alpine zones where you can get a chance of seeing a lot of plant species and everlasting flowers which are only found in the Rwenzori Mountains.
Dinner and overnight in Private Tents since there is no Camp within this area. Duration for the Hike 6 hours.
Day 7: skull cave rock shelter - Rocket pass/ lac de laluna.
After Morning Breakfast, you start to trek from skull cave, the trail takes you through the bogg areas jumping from tussock to tussock seeing a lot of animals. The vegetation is comprised of short plants and very open flatland. It takes 5 - 6 hours walk from skull cave rock shelter to rocket pass rock shelter.
Day 8: Rocket pass/lac de laluna. - Mount Gessi (Orlando peak)
This is the tiresome hike passing through the Rwenzori mountains open vegetation zones. This trek takes you to the top of Orlando peak on Mount Gessi. After taking a lot of beautiful photos return back to rockert pass camp for dinner and an overnight.
Day 9: Rocket pass/ lac de laluna - Mount Emin (Congo side)
Wake up early in the morning for breakfast as this takes you through the tiring bog through beautiful landscapes. Dungs of Rwenzori red mountain duiker are your favorable board walks before your ascent steeply to bare rocks of the Emin peak at 4900m. After conquering Mount Emin return back to lac de laluna for dinner and an overnight.
Day 10: lac de laluna - bigo camp 3505m
its a relaxed walk from lac de laluna connecting to to bigo camp through abit challenging as it descends down to bigo camp. It gives you a chance to see Mount Baker, Mount Stanley and Mount Speke. and these three peaks are unique that every travelers that has visited Rwenzori Mountains wishes to explore them and it means an extra cost of 200$$ per peak, if you decide to add on them during your amazing Rwenzori trekking with Rwenzori Expeditions.
Day 11: Bigo camp 3505m - Bujuku camp 3900m.
Breathtaking views down the valley start your day 4 hours of difficult boggy but rewarding condition will take you through the upper bigo bog and passing through the aerial beauty of Lake bujuku 3900m. It's a black cold and still body of water overlooked by bujuku camp. Dinner and overnight at Bujuku Camp.
Day 12. Bujuku camp 3900m - Mount speke
Since your interested and booked a hike to mount Speke , you will set off from Bujuku Camp in the morning and hike to mount Speke which is considered among the Toughest hikes when exploring Peaks on Rwenzori Mountains but the view is worthy the reward and you will proceed to top of Victoria Emmanuel Peak and later return to Bujuku Camp for Dinner and overnight
Day 13: Bujuku camp 3900m - Elena camp 4541m.
From bujuku Camp, climb over a head a head of the gully, a metal ladder takes you over a steep section after which the trail cuts into two. The trail on your right leads up to Elena camp 4541m and Mount Stanley on a steep climb over large boulders, while the trail on your left Leeds to Scott Eliot pass 4300m and down to kitandara lakes camp.
Day 14: Elena camp 4541m - Alexandria peak and margharita peak 5109m.
Rising early at 2:00am, you prepare with your guides to attempt Alexandria and margharita peaks at once. A difficult traverse of more boulders and steep slippery rocks is followed by an easier but still challenging (remember the altitude) strudge in crampons along the Stanley plateau before the final ascend leading to the summit of Alexandria thereafter to margharita peak.
From to Margherita peak takes 3 hours craving in the snows. After taking good pictures return back to Elena camp for hot lunch and continue down to kitandara lakes camp for dinner and an overnight.
Day 15: kitandara lakes camp 4027m - weismann peak and Mount luigi de savoi
You will set off from kitandara lakes camp 4027m and travel via Weisemana Peak which requires one to conquer all these two peaks and return back to fresh field pass for camping in the wilderness after passing through areas of bigata and Harns camps.
You will return to fresh field pass for dinner and an overnight since its the only recommended for stay on that day.
Day 16: Fresh field camp - Mount baker
After Early morning breakfast, you will set off from fresh field pass the trail ascends steeply taking you through senecio plants with good views of Congolese homes and Mount Stanley which will grant you chances to see the vegetation cover found at Bakers peak . After taking the wonderful photos on top of Mount baker return back to fresh field pass for lunch and continue down to Guyeoman camp at 3505m for dinner and an overnight.
Day 17: Guy yeoman camp 3505m - Nyabitaba and down to Nyakalengijja.
After Morning breakfast, you will slow down to Nyabitaba camp for lunch and continue down to Nyakalengija where you will find your safari guide and transfer Equator Snow Lodge for dinner and overnight . You will enjoy a relaxed evening after the long 17 Days in the Mountains of Rwenzoris.
Day 18: Transfer to Kampala
You will Wake up in the morning and enjoy your breakfast, and jump into your Safari land cruiser or Safari Van to transfer back to Kampala entebbe for flight back home.
