According to the press release dated on 14th May , Uganda wildlife authority Relations officer released a document to the public that Margherita peak will be closed temporarily for a given period of time as they fix the ladders to the point that got issue.
The Cheptegei peak was named after the campaign that was done by UTB to take Joshua Cheptegei hike to Rwenzori. The Uganda Wildlife authority recommended travelers to explore other peaks on Mount Rwenzori like the Cheptegei peak , Edward peak and Victoria Emmeunal peak.
While closing Margherita Peak visits , Bashir stated that the safety and well-being of visitors are paramount, and the installation of a permanent ladder at a strategic location on the right side of the Margherita Glacier is being explored as an alternative route to ensure safer passage for hikers to Margherita Peak.
