Lake Mburo National Park
In the western part of Uganda, Lake Mburo national park is one of Uganda’s smaller national parks, covering an area of about 370 square kilometers. The park is named after Lake Mburo, one of the park's prominent features. It is known for a diverse landscape consisting of open savannah, acacia woodlands, seasonal wetlands, and rolling hills. This diversity supports a wide range of wildlife, including zebras, impalas, elands, buffaloes, and various antelope species like the Uganda kob.
Additionally, Lake Mburo National Park is one of the few places in Uganda where you can see Burchell's zebras and impalas, which are not commonly found in other Ugandan parks.
Lake Bunyonyi
Lake Bunyonyi is a picturesque lake located in southwestern Uganda, near the town of Kabale. This freshwater lake lies at an altitude of about 1,962 meters above sea level and it stands as the second deepest lake in Africa, reaching depths of up to 900 meters. It features 29 dotted islands that add to the scenic beauty of the lake and provide opportunities for exploration. While at the lake, tourists can enjoy activities such as canoeing, swimming, bird watching, and hiking. The lake's calm waters make it ideal for water-based activities.
It is known as a popular stop for travelers heading to or from nearby attractions such as Bwindi Impenetrable National Park, Mgahinga Gorilla National Park, and the Virunga Mountains.
Bwindi Impenetrable national park
Located in the rugged terrain of southwestern Uganda, near the border with the Democratic Republic of Congo, Bwindi impenetrable national park stands as one of the most visited and amazing destination in the East African region. The park is a sanctuary to almost half of the world’s mountain gorillas that can be sight during the gorilla trekking safari. The experience involves encountering the habituated mountain gorilla groups in their natural habitat and once found, trekkers are allowed to spend a full hour in their presence as they learn more about their daily lifestyles.
Apart from mountain gorillas, Bwindi protects lots of wildlife in its rugged terrain and dense vegetation including other primate species like chimpanzees, baboons, and various monkeys. The park is also a paradise for bird enthusiasts, boasting over 350 bird species, including numerous endemic and Albertine Rift endemics.
Kalinzu
Kalinzu forest is a protected area in the south-western part of Uganda, stretching over an area of 137 square kilometers. The reserve is characterized by its diverse ecosystem consisting of dense tropical rain forest vegetation and wide range of wildlife including primates like chimpanzees, vervet monkeys, black and shite colobus monkeys, blue monkeys and others.
